Just in time for the spring allergy season, Allergybuyersclub.com , an allergy, asthma and sinus portal site announces the launch of its own e-commerce facilities in response to requests from the members of its site. Up until now Allergy Buyers Club has been primarily an information and community site.
President CEO, Mercia Tapping explains how its online shopping is unique.
"We are attempting to recreate for our members and site visitors the experience of visiting an old fashioned neighborhood store , where the store keeper would present you with a wide range of choices, tell you the pluses and minuses of each product, and give you some overall guidance and education. Then you would make your choice depending on your purchasing priorities. In our on-line store , we give an overall rating for each product , state its pluses and minuses as reported by a consumer panel and our overall assessment of the product".
Allergy Buyers Club was founded by Mercia Tapping in response to her own frustration at finding the lack of both good allergy medical information and products in one internet location. In particular, Ms Tapping reported that she wasted thousands of dollars on over priced, over sold, under performing products until she found those which relieved her allergies. Determined to assist others in the same predicament , she conceived the idea of "an honest online catalogue", where consumers would be told the truth about products.
Typical of the site's pithy comments about products such as air cleaners "the product is portable in as much as it has wheels" or when an air purifier drives dust particles to the walls creating a dirty wall "at least they are not going up your nose".
Ms Tapping says the job of their store is to educate, not restrict consumer choices . Allergybuyersclub.com screens all the products in its store, but only a minority of products are awarded a five star ‘excellent' rating. Tapping remarks with some amazement that lower ratings does not deter some consumers from making a purchase, although she is sure if allergybuyersclub.com said all its products were first class , they might sell more of them. However, the company is taking the long - term view, building customer loyalty by being a product source that consumers can trust.
Tapping reports that they have had a "fantastic response" to their approach with potential strategic alliance partners pouring through the door almost daily as well as manufacturers lining up to have their products put through the consumer panel process and get featured in the store.
